How ADR Encoder Works

The linear encoder records the displacement and velocity of the load during your strength training and sends data in real time via Bluetooth to the ADR System mobile app.

Attach the encoder

Place the encoder on a metal surface such as a weight plate. Its base with four neodymium magnets ensures a secure attachment.

Attach the strap

Fix the rubber strap to the barbell or training implement to measure range of motion and movement speed.

Connect to the free ADR System App

Pair the encoder to the free ADR System app via Bluetooth and select your training exercise

Start VBT Training

Perform your reps and analyze bar velocity, power output, fatigue and estimated 1RM in real time. The app alerts you when you reach your velocity loss threshold — so you stop at exactly the right moment.

What’s Included

Protective Carrying Case

Durable waterproof case to protect and transport your encoder.

Rubber Velcro Strap

Securely attaches to bars and training implements.

USB-C Cable & Charger

Power your device and train without cables.

Free ADR System App

Available on both Android and iOS, no subscription required.

ADR Encoder Takes Your Athletic Performance to the Next Level

Improving strength is not about doing more — it’s about training with precision and quality.

Thanks to modern velocity-based training technology, which allows coaches and athletes to monitor barbell velocity in real time, research has clearly shown that in strength training, more is not better.

Multiple scientific studies confirm that performing fewer repetitions — while avoiding excessive fatigue — produces superior strength and power adaptations compared to training to muscular failure.

This is where ADR Encoder becomes your competitive advantage. By measuring movement velocity and tracking fatigue levels, ADR Encoder tells you exactly:

  • How much weight to load on the bar
  • How many repetitions to perform
  • When to stop a set
  • How to maximize power output without unnecessary fatigue

With objective data guiding every session, your training becomes safer, smarter, and more effective. Train with intent. Train with measurable precision. Train for performance.

Velocity-Based Training (VBT): Why It Makes the Difference

Velocity-based training (VBT) has transformed modern strength training.

Once the performance industry recognized the measurable advantages of velocity-based training over traditional methods, the technology quickly moved from research labs into gyms and high-performance environments worldwide.

By measuring movement velocity during each repetition with a linear position transducer, athletes and coaches gain objective, actionable data unavailable in traditional percentage-based models.

With real-time barbell velocity feedback, you can:

  • Accurately prescribe training intensity
  • Monitor fatigue levels
  • Adjust loads based on daily readiness
  • Optimize power output
  • Individualize strength programming

Using ADR Encoder to measure execution velocity allows you to make informed, data-driven decisions that directly impact performance outcomes. In modern strength and conditioning, precision wins.

Scientifically Validated

Backed by multiple independent validation studies conducted by leading universities, the ADR Encoder has demonstrated high levels of accuracy, validity, and reliability in measuring barbell velocity and strength training performance variables.

Independent research confirms the device’s precision in tracking movement velocity, power output, and load displacement, making it a trusted linear position transducer for velocity-based training (VBT) in both professional and academic environments.

Velocity-Based Training (VBT) Solves the Limitations of Traditional Strength Training Methods

Velocity-based training was developed to address the structural flaws of traditional percentage-based programming models used in strength training.

The Time Gap Problem of 1RM Testing

In traditional methodologies, an athlete’s one-repetition maximum (1RM) is tested at the beginning of a training cycle. Training loads are then prescribed based on a fixed percentage of that initial value.

The problem? An athlete’s true strength fluctuates daily due to fatigue, recovery status, stress levels, sleep quality, and accumulated training load.

Using a fixed 1RM ignores these day-to-day variations, often resulting in loads that are either too heavy or too light.

Velocity-based training eliminates this issue by prescribing intensity based on real-time barbell velocity, allowing accurate load autoregulation every session.

Inaccurate 1RM Values in Many Athletes

Not all individuals are capable of achieving a true 1RM during testing.

In less experienced athletes, technical limitations frequently prevent them from lifting their actual maximal strength. As a result, their recorded 1RM is underestimated.

This leads to inaccurate load prescriptions and suboptimal strength adaptations.

By using movement velocity instead of maximal testing, VBT provides a more reliable and practical way to estimate relative intensity without requiring maximal lifts.

High Fatigue and Injury Risk During Maximal Testing

Direct 1RM testing is physiologically demanding and generates high levels of neuromuscular fatigue.

Additionally, due to the extremely high external loads involved, maximal testing carries a significant injury risk — particularly in athletes with lower strength levels or limited training experience.

Velocity-based training reduces the need for frequent maximal testing while still allowing accurate 1RM estimation through velocity profiles.

This improves safety while maintaining precision.

Different Effort Levels Between Individuals

Traditionally, all athletes were prescribed the same number of repetitions at the same %1RM, assuming the effort required would be equivalent.

Research has demonstrated that this assumption is incorrect.

Even at the same relative intensity, the level of effort required to complete a given number of repetitions varies significantly between individuals.

Through velocity loss monitoring, coaches can objectively quantify effort and fatigue, ensuring that each athlete trains at the appropriate stimulus — regardless of individual differences.
